Description
This plant is listed as an invasive species in the states of CT, MA, MT, NH, OR, WA. We do not ship this plant to the states CT, MA, MT, NH and OR due to it being listed as an invasive species.
Yellow Flag Iris, Iris pseudacorus, is a very hardy and easily grown plant that produces canary yellow flowers in mid- to late-spring which are held on sturdy stalks that rise above the above 3 to 4′ vertical green foliage. A great plant for the margins of the garden pond, where it should be planted in a container that is submerged, but can also be grown in average garden soil. When grown in the garden, the plant spreads by rhizomes to form patches in the garden. Though it prefers boggy to wet soils, it tolerates drought quite well. Avoid planting this Iris in the margins of natural bodies of water such as lakes, fish ponds, or swamps as it is known to be invasive in certain regions. We grow it primarily in pots and contained areas in the landscape.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 3 to 4 feet tall and spreading to form a patch 2 feet or more wide, the Yellow Flag Iris is ideal for use planted in pots that are situated in the margins of garden ponds. That said, do not plant this Iris near natural bodies of water where it might become invasive. An excellent accent in small garden spaces and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to Asian theme gardens, butterfly gardens, cottage gardens, perennial gardens, rock gardens, and yellow color theme gardens.
Growing Preferences
The Yellow Flag Iris is very easy to grow in a moist but well-drained to wet soil and full sun to part shade. Avoid planting in or near natural bodies of water as this species can become invasive and is listed as such in the following states where we cannot ship to:Â CT, MA, MT, NH and OR
