Description
Extremely cold hardy to -40F, ‘Chantilly Lace’ Goatsbeard is a very long-lived and easy-to grow native perennial similar in appearance to Astilbe but with better drought tolerance. It features a profusion of airy sprays of lacy cream color flowers over a mound of attractive fern-like foliage from late spring to midsummer. The plant grows up to 3 feet tall and gradually spreads over time to form a 3 to 4 foot wide clump in garden beds. It can also be enjoyed in pots, planters and other containers. You might also be happy to know that deer turn there nose up to this one.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing up to 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide over time, Chantilly Lace Goatsbeard is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, or as a background to lower growing perennials in the part shade to shade garden. Also nice in containers. A fine addition to partially shaded to shady woodland gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â 3 feet apart for mass plantingsÂ
Growing Preferences
Chantilly Lace Goatsbeard is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained to consistently moist soil in part to full shade. That said, established plants tolerate short periods of drought. Will tolerate full sun in cooler northern climates provided the soil stays consistently moist.
